Leadership Philosophy
I am an inspirational and transformational leader with a passion for lifelong learning and paying forward what I have learned through facilitating and mentoring children, families, and other educators. Everything I do comes from a place of love, acceptance, and value for each person for who they are through meaningful relationships. I am tuned in to their abilities, needs, interests, schemas, holistic play-based goals, and unique dispositions to learn.
I am a responsive, reliable, and trustworthy educator. I practice a play-based program and plan for a curriculum using the Emergent curriculum and Flight: Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework. I believe in child-initiated and freely chosen play experiences because children are resourceful and capable. I follow theorists like Malaguzzi, Piaget, Vygotsky, Bronfenbrenner, Maslow, Dewey, Steiner, and Bruner because it inspires my practice. Children have the right to play, to have a place of vitality that enhances their sense of belonging and well-being and gives them access to dynamic communities. Children are active participants in their own learning opportunities.
In either role, I celebrate and integrate cultures, diversity, gender identities, and their ways of knowing and being into my practice and make provisions for family involvement. I believe it is essential to work together and alongside each other. At the same time, we observe, plan, learn, research, and imagine possibilities that are followed up with support and scaffolding learning domains to meet the child where they are and for each child to reach their potential.
